Avebury Stone Circle

West Kennet Long Barrow

Step further into Britain’s ancient history at West Kennet Long Barrow, one of the largest and most impressive Neolithic chambered tombs in the country. Dating back to around 3650 BC, it was built roughly 400 years before Stonehenge and was used as a burial chamber for nearly 50 people before the chambers were eventually sealed. Set along a prominent chalk ridge close to Silbury Hill, this remarkable archaeological site provides a fascinating insight into the beliefs and traditions of prehistoric Britain. Cherhill Horse

Take in the impressive Cherhill White Horse, a striking hillside figure first created in 1780 and recognised as the third oldest white horse in Britain. Cut into the chalk of Cherhill Down, the horse has been restored several times over the years, most recently in 2002 when around 160 tonnes of fresh chalk were used to renew the famous figure. Today, it remains one of Wiltshire’s popular attractions, offering wonderful views across the surrounding countryside and a memorable stop during your private tour.

Silbury Hill

No visit to this ancient landscape is complete without seeing Silbury Hill, one of the most mysterious prehistoric monuments in Britain. Located near Avebury, this enormous artificial chalk mound forms an important part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Built around 2470 BC, the monument is similar in height and volume to some of the smaller Egyptian pyramids and is believed to have taken generations to complete. Its purpose remains uncertain, adding even more mystery to this fascinating journey through Britain’s ancient past.
