Let us show you Sussex – a beautiful and historic county on the south coast of England. Known for it’s rolling countryside, particularly the chalk hills of the South Downs National Park and many historic sites, including 1066 Country – the site of the Battle of Hastings.

We can create the perfect Sussex tour for you – for history buffs, there are Roman remains, Norman churches and cathedrals, fairytale castles from the Middle Ages and Regency, Victorian and Edwardian seaside towns. For transport fans, there are many historic steam railways, including the renowned Bluebell Railway.

Famous Sussex seaside towns, you might choose to visit on your tour include Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Worthing, and Bognor Regis, all with great shingle beaches, museums, galleries, theatres, and many other attractions. There are quaint local harbours at Chichester and Rye and the beautiful sandy bay at Camber Sands.

Bodiam Castle

A 14th Century castle with a moat. Built to help defend the area during the Hundred Years War, later owners supported the House of Lancaster in the Wars of the Roses, and the Royalist side in the English Civil War. Currently owned by the National Trust.

Beachy Head

Situated west of Eastbourne, the famous white cliffs and lighthouse at Beachy Head have featured in many films and TV programmes, as has the nearby Cuckmere Haven and Birling Gap.

Brighton, Arundel Castle, Sussex Downs

Brighton

From iconic tourist attractions to an impressive beachfront and Victorian pier, Brighton is a treasure trove of things to see and places to go. On your private tour you will experience the extraordinary Royal Pavilion, an exotic palace originally built as a seaside pleasure palace for George IV. Followed by a walk through The Lanes, Brighton’s historic intricate maze of twisting alleyways with a unique mix of antiques, jewellery and other shops. The spectacular Brighton Pier awaits you to complete your classic seaside tour.

Arundel Castle

A restored and remodeled medieval castle, and home to the Duke of Norfolk, Arundel Castle is known for its stunning features and impressive gardens. On your visit you will discover a fine collection of paintings, furniture and the amazing Baron’s Hall and State Apartments. The gardens are simply magnificent and make for a very peaceful and tranquil stroll.

South Downs

Off the typical tourist trail, our private tour guide will take you to see the quaint downland villages of Amberley known for their thatched cottages, chalk pits and ancient castle. Set in the beautiful Sussex Downs, there is also a working museum home to a vast array of old agricultural and industrial machinery,

Alternative Tour Sights

This tour can be customised with a visit to 1066 Battle of Hastings, Abbey and Battlefield (the greatest historical battlefield in Britain, King Harold and William the Conqueror). Due to location, this will limit your day tour to just one additional visit. We will happily discuss your preference with you upon booking.

Lunch and Notes

For lunch our tour guide will give you a number of options to choose from on the day. The guide will stay with you at most locations but we cannot guide you inside all venues, you can discuss this with your guide on the day once you have agreed an itinerary. But the guide will tell you what and where to go and all the history and what time and where to meet once you are done at any self-guide locations you choose to visit.
